Bar La Grassa is one of my favorite places in downtown Minneapolis. Sadly, this carpaccio rendition was a total failure. There is some strange spice in the meat. Nutmeg? Cinnamon? Coriander? Hard to tell, but enough to notice and not in a good way.
The meat was a very sparse portion. The underlying bread bread is way too large and overpowering. The dish is about the meat, it is not a sandwich.
The arugula was severely overdressed, wilty and kind of flavorless somehow.
The was not enough cheese as a ratio of the (sparse) meat.
It needed salt and pepper, which thankfully was on the table.
There appeared to be straight butter on the grilled crostini.
No capers – that was a solid miss. Capers belong on carpaccio, period.
Would not recommend this dish, nor would I get it again.
Presentation: Decent looking, interesting
Size: Skimpy, poor value.
Overall Score: 1/10 – Take this off the menu, total failure. If you want to see what a carpaccio dish is supposed to look like, check out Beau’s.
