My first selection of carpaccio down in The Islands, it’s definitely not something you see a lot on a menu. The Twisted Cork is an utterly unassuming little building from the outside but as you step in and look at the array of menu items you’ll be impressed.
Sadly, in this case the appetizer was stringy, a really poor cut of meat, and the slices were too thick.
The temperature of the meat was good (slightly cold, but not straight out of the cooler or over-cooked), but it was overdressed and had too much salt and pepper – something you never hear me say.
Instead of using the appropriate arugula, Bibb lettuce was used. But I get it, it’s hard to find everything you need on the islands so I can excuse the substitution.
The cheese was great, not perfect but at least in the right format and not too skimpy.
The dish was garnished with an appropriate amount, size and shape and quality of capers.
Presentation: meh, nothing special there.
Size: A bit on the small size
Value: This would be a fair price for a properly-executed dish.
Overall Score: 3/10 – would not usually get again. BUT, I have been to Twisted Cork many times and I know they have a quality menu and kitchen. I will try it again to see if they were just having a bad day.
